Notes: These images of the daily life reflect the general impact of the feminist movement on conceptions of modern womanhood. Yet, much like mainstream feminism of the time, this is a modern [white middle class] woman's reality. Thus, I'm struck by how Ms. Aliyya and her world looks nothing like Umi 's or even her teacher's I imagine — and how when I studied Arabic, the textbooks had the same problem.
