Recitation of Du'a Qunut during the sisters' Islamic studies class with Dr. Dunya.
Notes: Du'a Qunut is a supplication of the Prophet Muhammad that is commonly recited in the ritual prayer. This particular narration of the Prophet's supplication is from the Maliki school of Islamic jurisprudence. The words dictated and repeated in the recording, "wa nahfidu/narju rahmataka (and we struggle in Your Way/and we hope for Your Mercy)," are missing from Umi's written notes. This selection presented in this audio clip is the third time on the recording that Dr. Dunya recited the supplication with students. There is a rigor to his instruction, as well as an openness illustrated by the interaction with a student at the end of the audio clip.

Student: The first time you said, um, “bilkafireena” and now you said “bilkufar”
Dr. Dunya: “bilkufari” and “bilkafireena” are the same [inaudible] two forms of the plural. The single is “kafir” the plural is “al-kafireen” aw “al-kufar” but we have to follow the correct words of the Prophet and the correct words of the Prophet is “bilkafireen.” If I had said it before [inaudible] please correct it to be “bilkafireena.”Bilkafireena” I'm sorry [for mess up?].
