Notes: In this lecture wadud presents an early articulation of her now well-known concept, the New Hajar Paradigm. The Hajar Paradigm uses the story of Hajar or Hagar, wife of Abraham, to analyze the challenges contemporary women face. She begins her lecture by crediting Umi's good friend and mentor, Aliyah Abdul-Karim for helping her develop her ideas. Audio includes Q&A with audience members including community activist and leader, Aisha Al-Adawiya and the late holistic health expert Rasheedah Abdul Hakim and Imam Talib Abdur-Rashid of the Mosque of Islamic Brotherhood.
