Notes: This poster, likely purchased from a Black Muslim vendor, offers a lovely interpretation of the name “Haqq.” It also extends the idealized notion of the nuclear family with the idea that there should be a family name. My family doesn't have one name — Umi was born a Weeks and her chosen surname was [Amatul] Haqq; my last name is Abdul Khabeer, my father's first name, and my sister carries her father's last name. We are a family of many names.
