Notes: Three questions that demonstrate the preoccupations of Umi and other new Muslims in 1976. Although she had yet to become a mother, these questions show a concern for how to pass on Islamic morality in a non-Muslim society. That materialism, as an evil to avoid, appears in the questions twice indexes for me, that for her and them, the concern for morality includes concern for social equity.
