Treatise by a friend of Umi's seeking resolution and restitution from former spouse.
Notes: When I found this document in the archive, I was so impressed. Its form is thorough, systematic, and eloquent. It demonstrates a clear understanding and firm grasp of Islamic texts and legal traditions. All characteristics that in general white society and Muslim society are not associated with Black women. It also articulates an approach to conflict resolution that is community-based, more akin to what we might today call restorative or transformative justice, rather than the carceral justice that is more commonplace in the United States.
