Copy of Milestones copy published by the International Islamic Federation of Student Organizations.
Notes: This is perhaps the most popular text written by Sayyid Qutb. First published in 1964, Milestones is one of the most widely read Islamic treatises in the twentieth century with 138 editions published between 1960 and 2018 in 5 different languages. It is a polemical work that advocates for social reordering according to a specific interpretation of the Qur'an. The book carries the stamp of the Islamic Party in North America.
This is one of two works by Sayyid Qutb in the archive. The other is a photocopy of the book, The Religion of Islam. The photocopy does not have any markings, unlike this copy of Milestones, which was clearly read and examined thoroughly. Sayyid Qutb, a leading figure in the history of contemporary Islamism, is equally celebrated and rejected today. At the time of Umi's reading, Qutb was a revolutionary figure in Egypt.
